Medicare's Biggest Health News of 2026? The New $50 GLP-1 Program Is Finally Here.

The new Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program creates a new pathway for eligible beneficiaries seeking treatment for obesity and weight management. The program is currently scheduled to run through December 31, 2027.
Before You Get Too Excited...
One of the biggest misconceptions we're already hearing is:
“Great! Medicare now covers weight-loss drugs for everyone.”
Not quite.
This is not a blanket benefit for every Medicare beneficiary.
To qualify, you must meet Medicare's clinical eligibility requirements, be enrolled in an eligible Medicare Part D plan, and your physician must submit the required prior authorization. CMS—not your Part D insurance company—administers the program through a separate processing system.
What Medications Are Included?
At launch, the program includes certain formulations of:
- Wegovy® — injection or tablet
- Zepbound® — KwikPen® formulation only
- Foundayo® — tablet
